D&G won the Woolmark award in 1991, and Perfume's Academy "Most Feminine Flavor of the Year" in 1993 for their fragrance Dolce & Gabbana Parfum. In 1990, the same year they presented their men's collection for 1991/1992, they also launched their first perfume Dolce & Gabbana. Dolce & Gabbana started to export their products to Japan and other countries including the United States, where they founded their own showroom in 1990. In 1987, Dolce & Gabbana presented the Women's SS 1988 fashion show entitled Il Gattopardo/The Leopard line, and in 1989 they began designing underwear and swimming costumes. However, Dolce's family offered to help meet their costs when the two visited them in Sicily over Christmas, while incidentally, the fabric company did not receive the cancellation notice in time so the fabric was ready for them back in Milan upon their return. Sales from their first collection were disappointing enough for Gabbana to cancel the fabric order they'd put in to create their second collection. The name of the collection was due in part to the participation of local women as models on the runway. In March 1986, Dolce & Gabbana released their first self-produced collection Woman FW 1986/1987 entitled Donne Vere/Real Women. A bed sheet from Dolce's home was used as their stage curtain. Their friends served as models and wore their personal items to accessorize the clothing. Dolce and Gabbana did not have enough money to hire models or provide them with accessories, so they sought help from their friends. The SS 1986 collection was titled Geometrissimo and was debuted alongside five other up-and-coming Italian labels as part of Milan Fashion Week. They presented their first women's collection in 1985 in Milan, where a year later their store would open its doors. In 1983, they established a design consulting studio "Dolce & Gabbana". They had previously designed for the fashion brand of Giorgio Correggiari. History Early history ĭomenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana met each other in 1982 in a Milan club. The house specializes in ready-to-wear, handbags, accessories, and cosmetics and licenses its name and branding to Luxottica for eyewear. But, I am inspired to keep trying attars, and to definitely get my hands on mitti attar.Dolce & Gabbana ( Italian pronunciation: ), Also known by initials D&G, is an Italian luxury fashion house founded in 1985 in Legnano by Italian designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana. This particular attar is not terribly strong, and I am not really detecting oud–but I am wondering if that is because most oud I smell is synthetic, and real oud attar is a different thing altogether? No idea. (Unfortunately, no mitti attar was in the offing.) Anyway, that is how I find myself well anointed in Honey Oudh this morning! Who knew? So of course I had to order some. Sure enough, there is a purveyor of attars near-ish to where I live. So there I was looking up mitti attar, when some business called Tarife Attar popped up on my screen. So because I can barely understand anything in the damn book, I always read it with my iPad nearby to look up the actual information. I have heard of the scent petrichor, and have several versions of it in my own scent memory, and note that a bunch of groovy new agey companies create perfumes with “rain” among the notes etc. So, a few nights ago I was reading about how mitti attar is made, which I didn’t know was even a thing. But, I am continuing to read it because I am learning things I didn’t know. As I have whined before, I am slogging through a dreadfully poorly written (like anyone who writes “dreadfully poorly” should have any say in the matter!) book on scent.
